At approximately 03:33 p.m. this afternoon, officers responded to 9 Sewall Avenue, Brookline, MA 02446 for a call from a neighbor who observed a person in the hallway with two knives. There have been reports of erratic behavior over the past few days involving this same person. Officers responded, and upon seeing the police, the person went inside his apartment and closed the door. The officers did see the man in possession of a knife before he went inside.
The person remained inside his apartment and was not responding to attempts to communicate with him. Officers were able to gain access to the apartment (they were given a code by management to gain entry). An SRT robot was used, and pepper ball was deployed, and the person then went into his bathroom and closed the door. At this point they were able to establish a dialogue with him, and he eventually discarded two knives that he had with him. The dialogue continued, and at 07:35 p.m. the man came outside of the bathroom and was taken into custody.
The man was taken to the Beth Israel Hospital for an evaluation. At this time, it is not yet clear if he will face any charges related to the events of tonight.
